Best corded phone on the market -- voice quality, lighted keypad, small footprint. It's everything I need.
The buttons have the right amount of "give".Overall, this is a nice little telephone, simple and reliable.A great accessory is this little thing-a-ma-jig that keeps the cord from getting tangled: AT&T 91078 Cord Detangler - 3 Pack (Clear) I don't use the memory dial or emergency buttons but they could be useful if someone has trouble dialing numbers or uses a calling card for long distance. The frequent and annoying static on various cordless telephones was the last straw so I ordered this telephone over four years ago and have really enjoyed using it.The backlit dial pad is nice and the easy access to controls for ring and handset volume is great. The handset itself is well-balanced and feels substantial in the hand without being too heavy. The troubles with cell phones not working after the terrorist attacks in 2001 and the power blackout in 2003 made clear the advantage of a corded land-line telephone in emergencies. There have also been repeated problems with expensive combination telephone/answering machines where one stops working so the whole thing has to be replaced. You don't need any instructions to use the basic features, just plug it in, lift off the base and dial, which is a nice change from fancy electronics that take an hour to set up.

Cell phones do not direct 911 services to your physical address. Without a phone that is exclusively powered by the phone line you may not be able to contact emergency services during power outages.
Call your phone provider to find out exactly how reliable your local and/or mobile phone service is during a power outage or an emergency. Everyone home needs an emergency phone line when modern day communication fails.
This phone is our emergency phone and stays plugged in at all times. But don't just rely on my review.
Wireless battery operated phones are vulnerable to power outages. When a child dials 911 using your household phone line, 911 personnel are directed to your address whether or not the caller can identify themselves or their location.
It does the job as expected in this role, buttons and numbers are visible in the dark and most of all it does not rely on cell phone towers or electricity.
Also, the black color will hide dirty fingerprints. I'm happy with this purchase. It does not feel like those cheap thin weight-less plastic phones now available at Costco or Sam's Club. It is built solidly. The sound is good. It's a very fair price and this is your basic phone (which is what I was looking for). But what impressed me is that this phone is a QUALITY phone. It doesn't feel cheap.
